Chloroprocaine (Into the eye)

Chloroprocaine Hydrochloride (klor-oh-PROE-kane hye-droe-KLOR-ide)

Used in the eye to cause numbness or loss of feeling and prevention of pain before certain procedures. This medicine is a topical anesthetic (numbing medicine).

When This Medicine Should Not Be Used:

This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to chloroprocaine.

How to Use This Medicine:

Gel/Jelly, Drop

  • A nurse or other trained health professional will give you this medicine. This medicine is given as a drop onto the surface of your eye before the procedure.
  • Do not touch the eye for at least 10 to 20 minutes after application.
  • Do not allow the dropper tip to touch anything, including the eye.

Drugs and Foods to Avoid:

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

Warnings While Using This Medicine:

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
  • Bigger, dilated, enlarged pupils (black part of the eye)
  • Eye redness or irritation

If you notice other side effects that you think are caused by this medicine, tell your doctor
