When This Medicine Should Not Be Used:

This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to brompheniramine or to any other antihistamines, or if you have narrow angle glaucoma, a stomach ulcer, or problems urinating. Do not use this medicine during an asthma attack.

How to Use This Medicine:

Long Acting Tablet, Long Acting Capsule, Liquid, Chewable Tablet

  • Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed.
  • Swallow the tablet or capsule whole. Do not crush, break, or chew it.
  • You may take this medicine with food or milk if it upsets your stomach.
  • Measure the oral liquid medicine with a marked measuring spoon, oral syringe, or medicine cup. Shake the liquid well just before you use it.
  • Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
  • Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

Drugs and Foods to Avoid:

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

  • Do not use this medicine if you have used an MAO inhibitor (MAOI) within the past 14 days.
  • Tell your doctor if you use anything else that makes you sleepy. Some examples are allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, and alcohol.

Warnings While Using This Medicine:

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have an enlarged prostate, hyperthyroidism, or a history of asthma, glaucoma, heart disease, high blood pressure, or stomach ulcers.
  • This medicine may make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not drive or do anything that could be dangerous until you know how this medicine affects you.
  • Older adults may be more sensitive to the effects of this medicine.
  • Do not give any over-the-counter (OTC) cough and cold medicine to a child who is younger than 4 years. These medicines might cause serious or possibly life-threatening side effects in young children.
  • Tell any doctor or dentist who treats you that you are using this medicine. This medicine may affect certain medical test results.
  • Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
  • Chest pain, fast or uneven heartbeat
  • Decrease in how much or how often you urinate
  • Double vision
  • Extreme drowsiness or confusion, problems with balance or walking
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not there, unusual thoughts or behavior
  • Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness

If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:

  • Anxiety or tension
  • Dry mouth, nose, or throat
  • Sleepiness
  • Stomach discomfort or loss of appetite
  • Warmth or redness in your face, neck, or chest

If you notice other side effects that you think are caused by this medicine, tell your doctor
